My Mom Has Fun

Allow me to brag for a minute about my Mom, who happens to be 98.5 years old.  Every year she comes to visit us in Sayulita for about a month, and as all hosts know, we have to work to keep our guests entertained.  In her case, she likes to do things up in the air.  At 90, she went skydiving-- that's jumping out of an airplane (in tandem) in a parachute. She's para-sailed, hang-glided, and at age 93, she even did the Canopy Zip-line here in Sayulita.  Last year, she flew with Johnny Vinje in the ultra-light from Lo de Marcos to Sayulita and back.  And a day later, she set a new record at the Puerto Vallarta beach, parasailing at the age of 97.75 years old.

Well, she came back this season to visit, and this time, she had another enjoyable ride in the Ultra-light.  Then she wanted to do a larger Canopy-Zip tour.  We took her to Canopy River because they have been so generous in donating to the Grupo Pro Sayulita Fiesta auction each year.  The first two lines were more accessible by foot, so Mom not only did them, she had so much fun that she insisted on doing them again!

After our son, Nikolai, and I did the entire Canopy tour (having fun but holding on for dear life), we then drove to the beach in downtown Puerto Vallarta.  The guys on the beach had the newspaper article that appeared last April in the PV Tribune - laminated in plastic - about her parasailing record.  They told us that whenever someone is fearful or hesitant about going up, they take out and show the article, and then usually that person decides that if a 97.75-year old great-grandmother can go up, they can too.

Well, that was last April.  Mom wanted to go up again, and of course, she not only was smiling upon her landing, she broke her own record.  The new record is now 98.5 years old.

And we've done all the other fun things with her too, like taken her to wonderful restaurants within Sayulita and in the area.  We've gone to our favorites in town (I won't mention which ones because we have too many favorites and not enough time!) as well as new ones, such as Mirador Litibu, where one can watch the sunset and enjoy Bali-inspired food.

I guess you can assume that she loves to visit us here, and enjoy the blue skies and friendly people and fun activities.

Not only can I brag about my Mom, whose memory is not so great now but whose spirit is as strong as ever, but on behalf of Grupo Pro Sayulita, I can brag about all the wonderful things you (and your family and friends) can do, too!  You can try an ultra-light flight along the coast, or a Canopy River tour, or one of the new eateries you've never tried, because these experiences, among many other items, will be offered at our annual Fiesta fundraiser and auction on March 14.  All items are donated, so all proceeds go to Grupo Pro Sayulita, which helps our town.   Many items might go for bargain prices!  Donations are just beginning to come in, so I'll drop a few more names in future articles.

And remember, as a "special service" to you, some of these auction items have been personally tested by my Mom.   If Mom enjoyed them, you will too!  In fact, I hope this will encourage you to come and bid and win these wonderful donations - if not for yourself, then perhaps for your Mom or Dad --- it seems one is never too old to have fun!

¡MI MAMA se DIVIERTE!

 

Permítame jactarme para un minuto acerca de mi Mamá, que sucede tener 98,5 años. Todos los años ella viene a visitarnos en Sayulita para acerca de un mes, y como todos los anfitriones saben, tenemos que trabajar para mantener nuestros huéspedes entretenidos. En su caso, ella quiere hacer cosas arriba en el aire. En 90, fue la hacer libre paracaidismo -- que salta de un avión (en conjuntamente) en un paracaídas. Es párr-navegado, volada en deslizador, y a la edad de 93 años, ella hizo aún el Canopy Zíp-Línea aquí en Sayulita. El año pasado, ella voló con Johnny Vinje en la ultra-light de Lo de Marcos a Sayulita y atrás. Y un día más tarde, ella puso un nuevo registro en la playa de Puerto Vallarta, el parasail a los 97,75 años años viejos.

Bien, regresó esta temporada a visitar, y esta vez, ella tuvo otro paseo agradable en la Ultra-Light. Entonces quiso hacer una visita más grande de Canopy-Zíp. La tomamos para Canopy Río porque han sido tan generosos en donar al Grupo Pro Sayulita Fiesta subasta cada año. ¡Las primeras dos líneas fueron más accesibles por pie, así que Mamá no sólo los hizo, tuvo tanta diversión que insistió a los hacer otra vez!

Después de nuestro hijo, Nikolai, y yo hicieron la visita entera de Canopy (divertiéndose pero aguantando para estimada vida), nosotros entonces manejamos a la playa en Puerto Vallarta céntrico. Los chavos en la playa tuvieron el artículo periodístico que pareció el mes de abril pasado en la Tribune de PV - laminado en el plástico - acerca de su registro de parasail. Nos dijeron que siempre que alguien sea temeroso o vacilante acerca de subir, ellos quitan y muestran el artículo, y entonces generalmente que persona decide que si un 97.75-year bisabuela vieja puede subir, pueden también.

Bien, eso fue el mes de abril pasado. La mamá quiso subir otra vez, y por supuesto, ella no sólo sonreía sobre su aterrizaje, ella rompió su propio registro. El nuevo record es ahora de 98,5 años de edad.

Y hemos hecho todas las otras cosas divertidas con ella también, como tomado ella a restaurantes maravillosos en Sayulita y en el área. Hemos ido a nuestros favoritos en el pueblo (yo no mencionaré que unos porque tenemos demasiados favoritos y no suficiente tiempo)! así como nuevos, como Mirador Litibu, donde uno puede mirar la puesta del sol y disfrutar de alimento de Bali-Inspiró.

Adivino que puede asumir que adora visitarnos aquí, y disfrutar de los cielos azules y personas amistosas y actividades divertidas.

¡No sólo pueda me jacto de a mi Mamá, cuya memoria no es tan gran ahora pero cuyo espíritu es tan fuerte como jamás, pero a favor de Grupo Pro Sayulita, yo puedo jactarme de todas las cosas maravillosas usted (y su familia y los amigos) puede hacer, también! Puede tratar un vuelo de la ultra-luz por la costa, o por una visita del Canopy Río, o uno de los nuevos restaurantes que usted nunca ha tratado, porque estas experiencias, entre muchos otros artículos, serán ofrecidas (quizás para precios de ocasión), en nuestro recogedor de fondos anual de Fiesta y subasta el 14 de marzo. Todos los artículos son donados, así que todo continúa va al Grupo Pro Sayulita, que ayuda nuestro pueblo.
