A Magnificent Beach Cleaner is Coming to Sayulita

Let me start by reporting to everyone some very good news.  Because Sayulita has a 'certified beach' in the municipio, it will receive a large beach cleaner/sifter.  This is a huge investment on part of the government-- about $200,000 U.S. for the machine alone.  The government purchased three of them, and we are getting one of the three.  Grupo Pro Sayulita was honored at a ceremony in Bucerias (attended by Lazaro Garcia, head of the water department for Sayulita and also a GPS board member) for its participation in getting Playa Los Muertos certified and for keeping Sayulita's beaches clean.  (As many of you know, GPS funds a constant cleanup of the beach and surrounding streets.)  The beach machines were demonstrated for the invited guests. These machines can clean and sift a 100-meter swath of beach in less than a minute, reports GPS board member Marcos Scott, and they'll begin operations in Sayulita this month!

So next season, our beaches are going to look better than ever!  With the completion of the new sidwalks, palm trees and plaza, the addition of new public bathrooms on the north end, and as I reported in the last edition, new ambulance and fire/rescue vehicles with a promised station and 24/7 staff (including lifeguards), our town might be ready the receive the hundreds of thousands of visitors that we attract annually.  While some people are unsure about these changes, it is hard to argue that the infrastructure of Sayulita has been long overdue for an upgrade to meet the needs of an expanded resident and tourist population.    It is equally satisfying to know that the government is finally recognizing Sayulita's needs with much needed solutions.

Maquina Para Limpiar la Playa Va a Llegar a Sayulita

Mientras algunas personas son inseguras acerca de estos cambios, es difícil de discutir que la infraestructura de Sayulita ha estado mucho tiempo atrasada para una actualización para satisfacer las necesidades de una población expandida de residente y turista. Satisface igualmente saber que el gobierno por último reconoce que Sayulita necesita con soluciones mucho necesitadas.
