Jazz Mafia in Sayulita

Don Pato's was rockin' and rollin' this past Monday and Tuesday night. Brass horns erupted against a background of percussion and string instruments. The bar was filled to the brim both nights - the crowd pulsating and taking advantage of the new beat in town. Joe Bagel's voice echoed across the dance floor, causing a current of dancing, flowing bodies to move and jam in response. Uriah Duffy put on a show with his bass guitar, with Adam Theis on trombone, Shaina Evoniuk on violin and Brandon Werlin on drums.

Sayulita was graced by the presence of San Francisco, California's internationally-recognized music collective, "Jazz Mafia." Members of the band had travelled to Yelapa to play at a wedding of one of the band members and decided to stop by and visit Sayulita afterward to play a couple of benefit shows.

Jazz Mafia creates original music by fusing classic hip-hop, jazz, electronic, R&B, soul and afro-cuban styles into an eclectic, innovative sound. Jazz Mafia as a whole is a large 60-piece Palace ensemble composed of some of the Bay Area's most talented musicians, singers and MC's. Recent performances include the Newport Jazz Festival, Montreal Jazz Festival, Playboy Jazz Festival (Hollywood Bowl) and the Monterey Jazz Festival.

A small number of the (band) family came to enjoy the serene beach town and share their talents with the local community. Don Pato's estuvo "rockin' y rollin'" el lunes y martes pasado. Cuernos de bronce entraron en erupción mientras percusión y instrumentos de cuerda sonaron en el fondo.
