¿Dónde naciste y por cuánto tiempo vives en Sayulita?
Nací en Caponeta, Nayarit, y estoy viviendo en Sayulita desde pequeño; recuerdo asistir a la escuela primaria cuando se ubicó en lo que ahora es la Casa de Cultura.

Where you were born and how long have you lived in Sayulita?
I was born in Caponeta, Nayarit, and have lived in Sayulita since I was small; I remember attending the primary school when it used to be in what is now the Casa de Cultura.

¿Historia de la familia?
Soy soltero y tengo 5 hermanas. Tres de ellas están casadas y tengo muchos sobrinos.

Family history?
I'm a bachelor, and I have 5 sisters. Three of them are married, and I have many nieces and nephews.

¿Cómo llegaste a ser vendedor de helados?
Trabajaba en la construcción, de albañil, y luego fui a Tepic a aprender lo del nieve de mi tío que vive allá.

How did you get to become an ice cream vendor?
I used to work in the construction business, as a mason, and later I went to Tepic to learn about the ice cream business from my uncle, who lives there.

¿El nieve que preparas tiene un ingrediente secreto?
Claro que sí, lo tiene. Mi hermana prepara el producto en la cocina, y luego preparo la nieve aquí afuera.

Does your ice cream contain a secret ingredient?
Yes, it definitely does. My sister prepares the product in her kitchen, and I make the ice cream right here outside.

No, los cambiamos diario. Tenemos muchos sabores: fresa, chocolate, galleta, limón, vainilla, nopal, elote, etc. Tenemos vainilla y limón más a menudo como son sabores muy populares.

Do you have the same flavors every day?
No, we change them daily. We have many flavors: strawberry, chocolate, cookies, vanilla, nopal, corn, etc. We make vanilla and lemon more often, as they are the most popular flavors.

¿Qué cambios has visto en tantos años de vivir en Sayulita?
Sayulita está mucho más grande ahora y más moderna. Hay más edificios, más casas, y más trabajo para nosotros como hay más turismo.

What changes have you seen in the town in all the years you've lived here?
Sayulita is much bigger now and much more modern. There are more buildings, houses, and more work for us, as there are more tourists.

¿Qué es lo que más te gusta de vivir aquí?
Me gusta la tranquilidad y las playas. He viajado un poco, pero siempre regreso a Sayulita.

What do you like most about living here?
I like the peacefulness and the beaches. I've travelled a little, but I always come back to Sayulita.

¿Dónde te ves en 5 años?
La vida no está garantizada, y si Diós me presta la vida, estaré aquí. Estoy contento en Sayulita.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
There is no guarantee of the future, but if God grants me life, I plan to be here. I'm happy here in Sayulita.

¿Qué consejos les darías a los turistas que vienen a nuestro pueblo?
Les aconsejaría a conocer no sólo el pueblo, sino los alrededores, que tomen una excursión en barco o exploren las montañas, luego hay los caballos en la playa.

What advice would you give to tourists who visit our town?
I'd tell them to not only visit the town, but the surrounding areas, take a boat ride, explore the mountains, go horseback riding on the beach.

¿Qué cambios te gustaría ver en el pueblo?
Mejorar las calles. Durante las lluvias en unas calles principales, como Palmar o Libertad, hay mucha agua. Necesitan ser empedredadas para hacerlas más accesibles.

What changes would you like to see in Sayulita?
Improvement of the streets. During the rainy season, main streets such as Palmar and Libertad are always flooded. They should make them cobblestone streets to make them more accessible.
