Where are you from and how long have you lived in Sayulita?
I'm from Ixtlán del Río, Nayarit and I've lived in Sayulita for 47 years. I came with my wife and three children, then we had four more. We have seven children.

Para mejorar la vida para mi familia; la vida es más pobre allá.

Why did you move to Sayulita?
For a better life for me and my family. Life is poorer where I come from.

3. ¿Siempre ha trabajado en el llantero?
No, cuando llegué aquí, trabajaba como pescador y agricultor. Sólo hubo 37 casas en Sayulita en esa época. Tengo este negocio sólo 9 meses.

Have you always worked in a tire shop?
No, when I arrived here, for years I worked as a fisherman and in farming. At that time there were only 37 houses in Sayulita. I've only had the tire shop for 9 months.

4. ¿Por qué decidió abrir un llantero en Sayulita?
Porque Sayulita necesitaba una tienda así, no había este tipo de negocio. Como soy muy mayor para trabajar, y no sé mucho del negocio, empleé a Pablo, mi gerente, de Guanajuato.

Why did you decide to open a tire shop in Sayulita?
Because it was needed here, as there was no business of this type in Sayulita. As I'm too old to work, and don't know much about the business, I hired my manager, Pablo, from Guanajuato, to run the shop.

5. ¿Cómo va el negocio?
Al principio, muy bueno. En julio y agosto del año pasado el negocio fue muy bueno, pero después de la caida del puente, no hay mucho tráfico aquí. Esperamos mejorar cuando terminen el puente.

How's business?

At first, excellent. July and August of last year business was very good, but after the bridge fell, business hasn't been so good, as all the traffic goes around to Revolución. We're hoping business will improve once the bridge is finished.

6. Su negocio en calle Playa Azul, está pintado el color verde, afuera y dentro. ¿Por qué ese color?
El color verde representa la esperanza, el dinero y la prosperidad.

The color green represents hope, money and prosperity.

7. ¿Cuáles son los cambios más fuertes que ha visto en Sayulita?
El desarrollo del turismo. Todo es mucho más caro, antes no era.

What are the biggest changes that you've seen in Sayulita?
Definitely the development of tourism. Everything is so much more expensive; it didn't used to be.

What is the best part about living in Sayulita?
For me the best thing about living in Sayulita is the weather and the lifestyle here. It's very quiet and the people are very hospitable.

9. ¿Qué cambios le gustaría ver en el futuro en Sayulita?
Quiero que la vida sea más linda y más buena y tranquila como antes. He escuchado que van a hacer el pueblo una zona peatonal en el futuro. Es buena idea, tampoco es una idea nueva, pensamos en eso antes.

What changes would you like to see in Sayulita in the future?
I'd like life to be nice and quiet like before. I've heard that they're going to make downtown Sayulita a pedestrian zone in the future. It's a good idea, but not a new one; we've thought of doing it before.
