Where were you born and when did you first come to Sayulita?
I was born in Guadalajara and I grew up there and first came to Sayulita to visit 35 years ago after marrying my husband. We both loved Sayulita and we decided to make Sayulita our home 32 years ago.

Nací en Guadalajara y allá me crecí.Vine a Sayulita de visita hace 35 años después de casarme con mi esposo. Nosotros dos nos gustó Sayulita y decidimos quedarnos en Sayulita hace 32 años.

Family information?
My family is from Guadalajara and I have siblings who still live there that I go visit. I have one brother and four sisters. I met my husband, Juan Francisco, in Guadalajara and we were married for 47 years ago. My husband passed away on January 7th, 2006. We didn't have any children, but I have nieces and nephews here in Sayulita.

Toda mi familia es de Guadalajara y tengo hermanos que todavía viven en Guadalajara y voy a visitarlos. Tengo un hermano y cuatro hermanas. Conocí a mi esposo, Juan Francisco, en Guadalajara y estábamos casados por 47 años. Mi esposo se falleció el día 7 de enero, 2006. No tuvimos hijos pero tengo sobrinos y sobrinas en Sayulita.

Work history?
My husband and I used to live in the downtown area of Sayulita; we bought the building where the Hotel Hafa is now. I also own the corner building where the liquor store sits across from Rollie's restaurant. My husband opened the liquor store and it is still named after him, "Deposito Don Pancho." Before my husband opened the liquor store, I opened a dress shop downtown under the Hotel Hafa, and I worked the shop for many years.

What are some major changes you have seen in Sayulita over the last 35 years?
Sayulita has changed a lot and also grown in popularity. There were almost no foreigners in Sayulita 35 years ago. I remember when more and more Americans started to visit Sayulita about 20 years ago and I remember when Don Pedro's first opened. There were hardly any cars in Sayulita at that time and many people lived off the land and there was a lot more agriculture. Beans, papaya, bananas and other fruits grew in Sayulita and many people kept jobs either fishing or stockbreeding cattle.

¿Cuáles son los mayores cambios que ha visto en Sayulita durante los últimos 35 años?
Sayulita ha cambiado mucho y es más popular ahora. No había casi ningún extranjero en Sayulita hace 35 años. Me acuerdo cuando los americanos empezaron a llegar poco a poco hace 20 años y me acuerdo cuando Don Pedro's abrió. No había carros casi y mucha gente vivía de la tierra y había más agricultura. Se cultivaban frijoles, papaya, plátanos y otras frutas en Sayulita y mucha gente vivía de la pesca o de la ganadería.

What has remained the same or similar in Sayulita?
When I came to Sayulita the plaza was already there and the church, these have not changed over the years. Sayulita still hasn't turned into a big city and it remains a very charming town.

¿Qué cosas no han cambiado o siguen iguales en Sayulita durante estos años?
Cuando llegué a Sayulita, la plaza ya estaba y el templo y estas dos cosas no se han cambiado. Sayulita aún no se ha convertido en una ciudad grande y sigue siendo un pueblo encantador.

What do you like most about Sayulita?
I like the amount of tourism that Sayulita receives every year. I enjoy seeing new visitors and meeting new people and even seeing people return to Sayulita year after year. When I used to sit outside my store or outside my husband's liquor store, I had opportunities to practice my English with American visitors and meet new people. My husband also enjoyed practicing his English with his customers.

¿Qué le gusta más de Sayulita?
Me gusta todo el turismo que Sayulita recibe cada año. Me gusta ver a nueva gente visitando y conocer a gente nueva y hasta ver a las mismas personas llegar a Sayulita año tras año. Cuando me sentaba afuera de mi tienda o afuera del depósito de mi esposo, tenia muchas oportunidades de practicar mi inglés con los americanos que visitaban. A mi esposo también le gustaba practicar su inglés con sus clientes.
