Where are you from and how long have you lived in Sayulita?
I´m from Portland, Oregon, and I moved here from New York City in March, 2009.

Soy de Portland, Oregon, y me mudé aquí de Nueva York en marzo, 2009.

What brought you here?
I was looking for a better life with less consumerism, less stress and a healthier lifestyle. I first visited Sayulita in 1996, and I liked the vibe here; it´s always been a special place for me.
¿Qué te trajo aquí?
Buscaba una vida mejor, con menos consumismo y estrés, también buscaba una vida más saludable. Visité Sayulita por primera vez in 1996, y me gustó la buena onda aquí; siempre ha sido un lugar especial para mí.

How did you get started in the childcare business?
In the States I worked in the fashion and photography industry, and I got the idea for childcare when I was here for a wedding in 2007. My friend had hired a Mexican girl to watch her children, and I didn´t think too much of it at the time, but when I decided to move here, I said, that´s what I´m going to do! And that´s when I started Sayulita Childcare. I´m still doing photography, more and more all the time.
¿Cómo empezaste con el negocio de cuidar a los niños?
En los Estados Unidos, trabajé en la industria de modelos y fotografía, y se me ocurrió la idea de cuidar a los niños cuando estuve en Sayulita para una boda en 2007. Una amiga empleó a una chica a cuidar a sus niños, y cuando decidí mudarme aquí, decidí comenzar con mi compañía, Sayulita Childcare. Me interesa mucho la fotografía y todavía estoy trabajando en eso.

What do you like best about your job?
I adore children, and I get to spend time with them, have fun with them, and learn from them. I also get to meet lots of new people who often become my friends.
¿Qué es lo que más te gusta de tu empleo?
Me encantan los niños, y me gusta pasar tiempo con ellos. Nos divertimos mucho, y me enseñan mucho. También es una buena oportunidad de conocer gente nueva, y muchas veces llegamos a ser amigos.

What is the biggest cultural difference that you see between life in the States and Mexico?
In Mexico, families are more united, and spend time together, go out together. Here your friends become your family.
¿Cuál es la diferencia cultural más óbvio entre la vida en Mexico y los EEUU?
En México las familias son más unidas, se pasan más tiempo juntas, salen juntas. Aquí los amigos son familia.

What´s the biggest change you´ve seen in Sayulita since moving here more than two years ago?
Organic food and healthy produce is much more available now. For example, I can buy rice milk in the corner store in the plaza, and we have the Farmer´s Market.
¿Cuál es el cambio más sorprendente que has visto desde mudarte aquí hace dos años?
La comida orgánica está más disponible, por ejemplo, puedo comprar leche de arroz en la tienda en la plaza, y ahora hay el mercado los viernes.

What changes would you like to see in Sayulita?
I´d like to see more garbage and recycling pickup, so there aren´t piles of garbage in the streets.
¿Qué cambios te gustaría ver en Sayulita?
Me gustaría ver más recolección de basura y reciclaje para que no vea los montones de basura por el pueblo.

How do you see Sayulita changing in ten years?
I hope it doesn´t get like Puerto Vallarta; I hope it doesn´t lose its charm.
¿Cómo ves Sayulita en diez años?
Espero que no cambie como Puerto Vallarta, espero que el pueblo no pierda su encanto.

Where do you see yourself in ten years?
I live now, in the moment - life in Mexico has taught me that; enjoy the now, because you just never know...
¿Dónde te ves en diez años?
Vivo en el momento, la vida en México me ha enseñado disfrutar el momento, como nunca se sabe que va a pasar...

What would you do with $1,000,000?
Probably give about half of it away to organizations such as battered women´s shelters and abused children, also Sayulitanimals; the rest I´d spend on travel.

Probablemente donaría la mitad a organizaciones, tales como refugios para mujeres maltratadas y niños abusados, también Sayulitanimals, lo demás gastaría en viajes.
