A very common belief among the visitors of Sayulita is that emergencies that we attend in the office have to do with drunk people or junkies, and this is not true. The most frequent emergencies in the village are:

Surf-related accidents: These are the most frequent. Among these problems that we have attended are concussions, twisted ankles, fractures and skin wounds.
Medical Emergencies: Hypertensive crisis, heart attacks, asthma attacks, accidental falls and / or accidental knocks.
Insects or bug related Emergencies: scorpion sting, stingray sting, jellyfish contact.
Others: Severe allergies (anaphylaxis), food poisoning, dehydration, heat stroke, sunstroke.

Now a few questions for you:

Are you trained to help in each of these cases?
Do you know how to activate the Local Emergency Medical System?
Do you know where the primary care services in Sayulita are?
Do you know which is the best and closest hospital in the area and how to reach it?

Because of a couple of emergencies and accidents that occurred in the last weeks, where the action taken was wrong, and things ended in a fatal outcome, is why in the next weeks we will be talking about these issues and how to deal with them so that everyone is well informed and can help to have a safer and healthier Sayulita.

Una creencia muy comun entre los visitantes de Sayulita, es que las urgencias que atendemos en el consultorio tienen que ver con borrachos o dogadictos, y esto no es del todo cierto, las emergencias mas frecuentes en el pueblo que hemos visto en nuestra oficina son las siguientes:

Accidentes relacionados con el Surf: Estos son los mas frecuentes dia con dia. Entre los problemas que hemos atendido estan los golpes en la cabeza, tobillos torcidos, fracturas y heridas en la piel.
Urgencias medicas: Crisis hipertensivas, infartos al miocardio, crisis asmaticas, caidas y/o golpes accidentales.
Urgencias por insectos: Picadura de alacran, picadura de mantarraya, lesion por aguamala, picadura de abeja.
Alergias e intoxicaciones por alimentos.
Deshidratación, golpes de calor, insolación.

Ahora unas cuantas preguntas para ti:

Conoces los servicios de atencion primaria en Sayulita?
Conoces los servicios hospitalarios cercanos y como acudir a ellos?

Debido a unas cuantas emergencias y accidentes que ocurrieron en las ultimas semanas y donde se actuo mal teniendo un desenlace fatal, es por lo que en las proximas semanas estaremos platicando de estos temas, para que todos estemos bien informados y en equipo ayudemos a tener un Sayulita mas seguro.
