Although Grupo Pro Sayulita volunteers are up to their eyebrows with ongoing programs, the number one concern last season became security. In response to the urging of many, we undertook an additional program, separate from our others, to increase the police presence in town.  After many weeks of investigation and research, we settled upon a specific program and timetable, which was then presented to homeowners for their support. We worked on this plan, but as often happens in Mexico, governmental elections and then bureacractic changes, made us amend our plans.  However, some of these changes were for the good.

The original plan was to hire extra state police, under a special program that the government set up just for this purpose. We were required to supply the police with office/bathroom/rest space, ATV vehicles, gas, communication equipment, uniforms and so forth. They would be responsible for a specific geographic area during contracted terms. We used the initial funds for the required infrastructure items -  we purchased two used ATV vehicles and we secured space, not only for the new police, but luckily in time to keep the regularly assigned police in town after they lost their facilities. But the governmental elections and reorganization delayed initiating the contract portion of the program. Because we had assembled such a good infrastructure that was ready-to-go, the government assigned extra police here anyway. As long as we keep supporting this infrastructure, the extra police will remain.  The communication between the town and police is increasing.

This program is being supported by others as well, including Punta Sayulita and Villa Amor.   Everyone involved agrees that this support is critical.  Other groups are doing efforts as well, and we hope all of it will be coordinated to have the best effect.  For example, for several years, Neighbors Watching has been encouraging the reporting of crime.  Part of everyone's efforts, which we are hopeful will happen soon, is to have an regional office in Sayulita, so crime can be reported here without requiring a trip to Bucerias.

Yes, we know it's difficult to always know if it's working. We think it is and we see the police around. We do want to fine tune and expand the patrols and the coordination efforts. Imagine what it might be like if we did not have this program at all and if we did not have the number of police in town.  And remember, all tourist destinations have crime; we've heard this from friends all over the world. Sayulita is special; it's small and we all know each other; there is no excuse not to work together to solve this problem. We don't want to allow tourist crime at all - we want zero crime here. Please, I urge you to give your fair share to support this program. We really don't pay serious property taxes - so throw a few pesos this way.  If everyone chips in, we can keep Sayulita as the number-one small tourist destination in Mexico.

Programa de Policia Esta Funccionando

Aunque voluntarios de Grupo Pro Sayulita estén hasta las cejas con programas progresivos, el número una preocupación última temporada llegó a ser la seguridad. En respuesta a instar de muchos, emprendimos un programa adicional, separa de nuestro otros, para aumentar el presense de policía en el pueblo. Después de muchas semanas de investigación e investigación, nosotros nos asentamos sobre un programa y el horario específicos, que entonces fue presentado a propietarios para su apoyo. Trabajamos en este plan, pero como a menudo sucedemos en México, elecciones gubernamentales y entonces cambios de bureacractic, nos hicieron enmendamos nuestros planes. Sin embargo, algunos de estos cambios fueron para el bueno.

El plan original fue de emplear la policía del estado extra, bajo un programa especial que el conjunto de gobierno arriba sólo para este fin. Fuimos requeridos a suministrar la policía con la oficina/cuarto de baño/espacio de descanso, vehículos de vehículo todo terreno, el gas, equipo de comunicación, los uniformes, etcétera. Serían responsables de un área geográfica específica durante términos contratados. Utilizamos los fondos iniciales para los artículos necesarios de infraestructura - compramos dos vehículos utilizados de vehículo todo terreno y nosotros aseguramos espacio, no sólo para la nueva policía, pero por suerte en tiempo de mantener la a policía regularmente asignada en el pueblo después de que perdieran sus facilidades. Pero las elecciones y la reorganización gubernamentales demoraron iniciar la porción de contrato del programa. Sin embargo, porque habíamos reunido una infraestructura tan buena que estuvo listo a va, el gobierno asignó excepcionalmente policía aquí de todos modos. Siempre que mantengamos apoyando esta infraestructura, la policía extra se quedará. La comunicación entre el pueblo y la policía aumenta.

Este programa es apoyado por otros también, inclusive Punta Sayulita y Villa Amor. Todos implicado concuerda que este apoyo es crítico. Otros grupos hacen los esfuerzos también, y nosotros esperamos todo será coordinado para tener el mejor efecto. Por ejemplo, durante varios años, Neighbors Watching (Colinda Mirar) ha estado favoreciendo la cobertura de crimen. La parte de todos los esfuerzos, que somos optimistas sucederá pronto, es de tener una oficina regional en Sayulita, así que crimen puede ser reporteado aquí sin requerir un viaje a Bucerias.

Nosotros no queremos permitir turista crimen en todo -- -deseamos crimen cero aquí. Por favor, yo le insto a dar su acción justa a apoyar a este programa. Nosotros realmente no pagamos impuestos sobre la propiedad inmobiliaria graves -- tan tira unos pesos esta manera. Si todos astillan en, podemos mantener Sayulita como el número-un pequeño destino de turista en México.
