She finished grade 12 in Tabasco, Mexico and then returned to Toronto to study travel and tourism.  After graduation, she worked for two years in Los Cabos, Mexico in resorts and then moved to Sayulita. The Casa Clu Youth Community Center located in San Ignacio is a place where the children of San Ignacio can learn and develop their skills through art, games, activities and sports. The Casa Clu center and the various programs offered to youth is spearheaded by Jessica Zepeda along with other volunteers which initiated three years ago after realizing there was a huge need for such a center in San Igancio. "Many children in San Ignacio do not have the opportunity to attend school. At Casa Clu, children have a place where they can interact, communicate, play, be creative while learning important life skills" says Jessica Zepeda who confirms that approximately 70 children are now involved in Casa Clu and their programs.

Residents and visitors of Sayulita got a special treat last weekend as a couple live bands performed in our small town, one of which was a very famous pop-rock band, Mana. Although only two members of the normally four-member band performed in Sayulita the show was incredible and fans of Mana got to enjoy listening to some of their best and most classic Spanish rock tunes.

Three promising Optimist sailors from the state of Nayarit have been selected to represent Mexico in international competitions during July 2013. Partially sponsored by Todo Vela Mexico, these sailors need additional help to cover their expenses. Keven Avila, a local Sayulita secondary student is one of the participants invited to compete in Bermuda at the North American competition.

Three local surf talents, Dylan Southworth, Adrian Rodriguez and Leila Takeda are heading to Santa Catalina, Panama to participate in the ISA World Surfing Games. There will be six representatives from Mexico all together and three of those six come from our own pueblo, Sayulita. Friends and Family will be cheering on our local surfers at the World Surfing Games from May 4th to May 12th.

What is an Escaramuza event in Mexico? It is a traditional, Mexican competition and choreography performed on horseback by young ladies who participate in "Charreria", Mexico's national sport of horseback riding. Teams are made up of all female participants, between 8 and 10 young ladies per team who are dressed in traditional dresses representative of Mexico and must perform a rehearsed routine to music incorporating various techniques and manoeuvres on their horses. For the first time, Sayulita will be hosting an Escaramuza event on Sunday April 21st.

Roger and Linda Burten, who established Sayulita Investment Realty in January of 2005, recently sold the business to long-time resident and real estate professional, Rod Rosile, who has 15 years of real estate experience in Sayulita.

Daniel Velazquez, now operating the restaurant and his staff had a successful turn out.

On Thursday, July 26th the first of 275 street name signs was nailed to the corner building at Calle Gaviota and Calle Palmar. Sayulita's town delegate, Hector Pina who initiated the street sign project was present to hang the first sign; Calle Gaviota street sign.

"I do shop locally. One of my favorite things to say "if I can't find it in sayulita, I probably don't need it." One of the reasons I choose sayulita was for the lack of consumerism here. No 'fast food restaurants' like up north, I don't want a car or television and i wanted to feel a sense of community. I find that everyday, exploring all the shops in our town and finding amazing food and products right here!"

Sayulita was host this past weekend to the first national Stand Up Paddle contest organized by the Sayulita Surf Club. The SUP contest was a successful event bringing tourism and competitors from all over Mexico including Jalisco, Oaxaca and Baja California. Of course our own local talent did not disappoint as Sayulita local surfers took to their Stand Up Paddle boards and dominated the waves.
