For the past couple of months we've been conducting a survey to discover the top 10 reasons why visitors to Sayulita who normally exercise choose not to, and why visitors who never exercise suddenly decide it's time to get in shape.  The answers were both enlightening and entertaining.  Some may sound familiar:)  Give them a quick read, then let us know what you think

Dwight Shroot from "The Office" has a beet farm. For years I thought he was crazy. Beets? I didn't like the look or sound of them when Grandma offered 'em up at Thanksgiving, and, until last week, still didn't like the look or sound of them... Beets... Dwight Shroot's Beet Farm...  Grandma and beets... there was just no winning for the poor superfood... until now!

As the holiday season turns up our feelings of generosity & love, I thought no better time to remind you of Juan Carlos and how your big-heartedness can make a huge difference in the life of a child. I also know that we all give in many ways around Sayulita and the world. It is hard to give to everything and every time we are asked. So just read below and if you find yourself interested, moved or find an extra $200 peso bill in your pocket, know there is somewhere to go with it all.

One of our fitness certifications is from The American Council On Exercise, a.k.a. ACE. The following article is a great guide to help get you through the holidays without feeling guilty by January first and continuing throughout the new year. Whether you're in Sayulita, Vancouver, or Chicago, this plan of attack works for everyone. We thought it was very time appropriate to share it with you; we like it and we hope you do too:

We've been saying it for almost 8 years now, and we're going to say it again, "Sayulita is a complete health and wellness center."  Every time we turn around there's another activity dedicated to improving your physique, mind, spirit, soul,...  and it's fantastic!  If variety is the spice of life, Sayulita is the Spike of herbs.

The average daily salt (sodium) intake is much higher than what is recommended. Additionally, about 70% of the population has risk factors that warrant they lower their salt intake.  Odds are you are eating too much salt every day.

Who are those with risk factors:

First off, a big THANK YOU to hurricane Jova for sparing Sayulita.  Now that everyone in town can focus on getting ready for the high season, instead of cleaning up after a storm, it looks like for those of you who enjoy a healthy lifestyle and a heavy dose of "special" attached to your fitness routines, are in for a treat.

Wednesday, October 5th, 2011

OK folks, 30 days until the official start of the "high season."  As businesses and the town begin the clean-up from the summer rains and heat, it's also time to get that body of yours in shape for Sayulita days: surfing, swimming, hiking, biking, snorkeling, kayaking, SUPing, yoga, pilates, power ropes... margaritas...  GET READY!

If you're one of the lucky few who have had the opportunity to witness the magic that is a Sayulita summer sunrise, then you'll know where the inspiration for this issues'  two-week fitness challenge came from. Stated as simply as I can, the sunrises this rainy season have been STUNNING! To the point of inspirational and energizing.

Last week as I was enjoying my beach walk down to the north end, I saw a girl exercising. While I try to meditate or let go on these walks, as I approached her, I realized this walk was to be more about releasing knowledge than releasing energy.  She had her feet buried in the sand and was doing tons of situps.

Congratulations, again!  You've earned another margarita after a week of cross training sessions on the beach.  But, this time you don't feel like a margarita?  Understandable.  Just like our bodies require a variety of physical stimuli to avoid hitting that dreaded fitness plateau, our taste buds need it too.

When the sky grows dark, the sun disapears, and the clouds unload their life-giving liquid power...  get in your car and go to the gym.  Just kidding.  In fact, The Sayulita Rain Train requires you to do just the opposite.

Do you remember the tragic story of Juan Carlos and the fundraiser held for him last year at Don Pedro's Salsa night? Let us remind you...

Three years ago, Juan Carlos was seriously injured in a car accident. He was 2-years-old at the time and he suffered a massive head injury that left him with serious brain damage. He is now 5-years-old and he has undergone operations and medical treatment without end. Juan Carlos is completely dependent - he lost most of his motor skills, however responds to touch and voices. He can sometimes move his fingers and legs. He can not speak, but his parents seem to understand a few of his grunting noises. He is unable to eat and is fed through a feeding tube in his stomach. He requires constant attention - 24 hour care.

We want to thank one of our readers for pointing out that is was Yoda, not Mr Miagi, who said "There is no try.  There is only do, or not do". Mr. Miagi said, " "Walk on road, hm? Walk left side, safe. Walk right side, safe. Walk middle, sooner or later get squish, just like grape. Here, karate, same thing. Either you karate do “yes” or karate do “no.”

As we're wiping the sweat off of our bodies after a 2 block walk from the beach yesterday, we were reminded of a Lululemon (yoga clothes) storefront sign we saw in Chicago this past winter (winter,..ha ha): "Sweat Every Day".

Thursday, May 19th, 2011

We have a little sign in our house that says, "You never really leave a place you love.  Some of it you take with you, leaving a part of you behind."  Got goosebumps?

When I was using the mop to wipe Tabby’s sweat from the floor during today’s Power Ropes class, I started thinking that our weekly challenges have been pretty easy on you so far: go for a surf, take a hike, do some yoga, breathe... So as we kick off Physique Transformation Month in Sayulita, and the pools of sweat around Tabby grow bigger, we're turning up the heat on you too.
