A lot has been going on at the Primary School in Sayulita. They've been painting the buildings colorfully, cleaning everything up. But the most impressive project of all has been the gardens. All the students, teachers and parents have been working non-stop for weeks putting in beautiful gardens all over the school. Each class has it's own garden and there is a main garden in back for everyone. They even made a garden honoring the memory of their lost amigos--4 kids who have died over the last year. It's all very beautiful and impressive.
Jaws of Life and More Good Things for Sayulita

Sayulita got their long awaited Firetruck, Ambulence and last, but not least....The Jaws Of Life!! Sunday while most people were watching the surf contest, some lucky people go to see a demo of the fire truck, Fire fighters cutting a "wrecked" car open with The Jaws of Life tool and rescuing and stablizing a boy and safely delivering him to the ambulance.

Sayulita Days is always fun, a sweet parade, a rodeo and carnival. But this year it seems like the kids are getting more flashy with their moves and even though it was short and sweet, it seemed bigger......or maybe it was just my vantage point of shooting from above where everything looked sort of graphic. One of the things I love about Sayulita is I never know what I'm going to see on my walks. Everyday I walk the beach on the North side of town and I love when I bump into something/someone like this: Girl with a Bird....sort of sounds like a book title.

Sayulita is full of little taco stands on the street and pretty much all of them a good. But here on the North side of town, the place where we all go is called "Tacos On The Street." Sandrita and Jorge have one of the few taco places to offer actual grilled vegetables on their veggie tacos.  They also have the best steamed fish tacos ever on Thursdays and steak tacos all the time, not to mention all the great desserts that Sandrita bakes daily.

I was walking early in the morning, rounding the corner and I couldn't believe my eyes....I thought I was dreaming. Someone had turned our trash corner--which , even though it's got one of those standing trash baskets, was always a messy garbage heap, no matter how many times you picked up around it--into a beautiful, garden-surrounded, bamboo fenced, fancy garbage enclosure. On closer inspection, I found that Jose Salim, who lives at and manages Villas Sayulita, had taken it upon himself to beautify our corner. Thank you, Jose!! We promise to help keep it beautiful. Okay, Sayuleros, see what you can do in your neighborhood.

Last Saturday the Sayulita Surf Club and Punta Sayulita hosted The Who's Next? Surf Tournament for kids. The event was a success with a great turn-out of young surf talents and spectators on the beach! Here are some photos of some of the kids rocking the waves in Sayulita.

The skies were filled with these beautiful and environmentally friendly lanterns on New Year's Eve. You could see them going off far into the distance in the night sky as the clock struck midnight and Sayulita welcomed 2013.

The Virgen of Guadalupe

Last week (and this) every night had a different virgin from each neighborhood in a procession to the plaza and church to celebrate the Virgin of Guadalupe. After shooting pretty much every night, these are my favorites, ending with the torch carried by boys running all the way to Sayulita from the town of the original sighting of the virgin.

The local market opened a couple of weeks ago in their new location close to the corner of Revolution on Avenida Palmar and everything looks great! Lots of new vendors and the same great ones who've been here all along. Come for breakfast or lunch--but hurry-- it all goes fast!
